OUR LEADERSHIP

Senior Pastor John Pouchot

After serving at Petsworth from  2002 to 2003 as an associate pastor, Pastor John returned to Petsworth in 2016 as senior pastor.  From 2003 to 2015 he served as the lead pastor for Poquoson Baptist Church.

John and his high school sweetheart, Tracy, have 3 children – John Montgomery, Molly Grace, and Lily Young that are separated by 22 years (because God’s timing is not our timing!)  Outside of his salvation in Christ – John views his greatest gift as his family and treasures the time he is with them.  He is thankful for the heritage and legacy of faith given to him by his own parents.

John is an avid cross-country and track and field fan having competed on the prep and collegiate levels.  In 2009 he was inducted into the Gloucester High  School Sports Hall of Fame and has coached at times even while engaged in ministry.

Loving the local church – seeing individuals embrace the truth of Scripture in obedience – and sharing the good news through preaching, teaching and personal witness are John’s ministry passions.\

John is a graduate of Gloucester High School (Go Dukes!), the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!), and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (no mascot)

Youth Pastor Jeremiah Verdin

Jeremiah Verdin was born and raised in a Christian home near Greenville, South Carolina. He is one of four children with one brother and two sisters. He was raised in a home that prioritized loving the Lord, loving each other, and being a part of the church that they were members of. Jeremiah was lead to Christ by his mother at an early age and accepted his calling as a pastor with an emphasis toward students when he was 18 years old.

It was through the encouragement of his youth minister and friend that Jeremiah accepted the calling to prepare for his ministry by going to college. He joined the Air Force Reserves in order to serve his country and be able to afford to go to school at North Greenville University. After graduating from college, the Lord led him to move to New Orleans in order to peruse and obtain his Masters of Divinity in Church Education with a specialization in Youth Ministry.

During Jeremiah’s time in New Orleans, he met the love of his life and was a married to Rachel Winston Verdin. The Lord has blessed Jeremiah and Rachel with a daughter, Ruth, and a son, Jackson. Together, Jeremiah and Rachel share a heart for seeing students accept Jesus Christ as their savior and seeing those students, as well as their families, come to a more full awareness of God’s love and Lordship in their personal lives.
Jeremiah enjoys variety of outdoor events from sports, to fishing, to just spending time on the water; weather that be lake, river, or ocean water. Jeremiah’s primary personal hobby is going to the gym.
